Art and craft festival
Located in downtown Parker, Colorado, the O’Brien Park Festival is a popular festival that includes live music, food vendors, and arts and crafts. The event is open on Saturday and Sunday.
You will find more than 120 booths at this annual summer art market. The event features ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, and mixed media. You can also listen to live music and see artist demonstrations.
There is plenty of room to park. A gazebo, viewing platform, and shade trees are available. Also, the park has two playgrounds, a baseball field, and basketball hoops.
The festival is free to attend. Visitors can enjoy the many activities, including live music, face painting, and children’s games. Kids can make a spooky owl, a popsicle aircraft, or a butterfly, all provided by Girl Scouts.
During the winter, the park offers a winter market. It’s a great place to get gifts for friends and family.

Dog park

In addition to the dog park, O’Brien Park has a large gazebo that serves as a backdrop for many events. Additionally, there are a few playgrounds and public restrooms. There’s also a lighted softball field.
For a small fee, you can enroll your dog in the Dog Point program. Here you will receive a gate code that allows you and your dog to enter and exit the park. You’ll be asked to provide proof of a rabies vaccination and a city or county dog license.
O’Brien Park has a water park, as well. It’s open seasonally. A large fountain makes it easy for your pet to stay hydrated while you’re visiting the dog park.
Rueter-Hess Reservoir Recreation
Rueter-Hess Reservoir is a reservoir that is about half the size of Cherry Creek Reservoir. It is located on Hess Road in the Newlin Gulch area. The water that flows into the reservoir comes from the Parker Water and Sanitation District diversion structure.
The water is great for hiking, biking, fishing and other water-related activities. The reservoir is part of the Rueter-Hess Recreation Authority, which is a collaboration between Lone Tree, Castle Pines, Douglas County and the City of Parker.
Some of the most interesting and exciting recreational activities are those that involve Rueter-Hess Reservoir. These include guided hikes, photography tours, non-motorized boating and paddleboarding.
Another fun recreation opportunity is the play fountain, which features color-changing LED lights. This attraction draws visitors of all ages.
In the future, the Rueter-Hess Recreation authority plans to introduce soft-surface trails, fishing and other water-related recreation opportunities. They are also establishing a conceptual master plan to manage their recreational assets. Next blog post!
