USMC CPL David M Sonka Dog Park and Westcreek Disc Golf Course
This summer, Parker residents can celebrate two new recreational opportunities: the USMC CPL David M Sonka Dog Park and the Westcreek Disc Golf Course. The dog park is named in honor of Corporal Sonka, a Chaparral High School graduate who was killed in Afghanistan in 2013. Browse around this site.
Discovery Park
The town of Parker is a great place to explore the outdoors. It’s located in a foothills area of the Denver Metro Area, and its elevation is well above 6000 feet. A few parks are available in the town of Parker, and the Cherry Creek Trail system offers a hundred miles of hiking and biking trails just outside your front door.
There are plenty of events in Parker, and the annual Parker Stars and Stripes Celebration is a fun and festive Independence Day celebration in July. This event includes entertainment, food, and a visit to O’Brien Park for a free concert.
Discovery Park in Parker is a 1.5-acre park that hosts concerts and public art shows throughout the year. In the summer, the park features fountains and interactive displays. During the winter, the park has an ice trail that meanders through the park like a frozen river.
Parker’s new disc golf course was opened last week. This 18-hole course was designed by local disc golf enthusiasts.
Rueter-Hess Reservoir Recreation
Rueter-Hess Reservoir is a natural resource located between Parker and Castlerock. It is a major water management project. The reservoir serves as a reservoir for the PWSD (Parker Water and Sanitation District), a local water utility. This resource is a key to the district’s ability to serve the region.
There are a number of outdoor recreational opportunities available at the Rueter-Hess Reservoir. Some of these activities include fishing, paddleboarding and hiking. Several events have been scheduled at the park, including guided tours of the reservoir. Interested visitors can sign up for a reservation.
Registration for the Paddle Days, which will be held May 28 through September 6, is open. Each participant will need to create a CivicRec account. Westcreek Disc Golf Course
The Westcreek Disc Golf Course and USMC CPL David M Sonka Dog Park are a couple of the newer additions to Parker’s impressive line up of amenities. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held for the two newest amenities, with a few lucky members of the community getting a chance to sample the fruits of their labor.
In case you were not aware, the town of Parker is a little more than a mile from one of the city’s many award-winning golf courses, and is home to some of the best hiking trails in the region. You may want to take your pooch for a test drive around one of the several dog parks in the area.
Among the newer additions, a disc golf course dedicated to Parker native David Sonka was the big reveal. Although the new 18-hole facility isn’t open yet, it will be by the end of the summer. One of the town’s more eagle scouted members of the canine fraternity said the disc golf course was one of the most requested amenities in the last five to 10 years.
Sulphur Gulch Trail
Disc golfers in the Denver area are in for a treat this summer. An 18-hole course dedicated to Parker native David Sonka has opened in the Town of Parker. The course features a sculpture zone, sandhills prairie, and riparian zones.
The park is located south of E-470 along Cherry Creek Trail. It features a small dog area, a fountain, and a shaded pavilion area.
Westcreek Disc Golf Course is an 18-hole course designed by local disc golf enthusiasts. Players can enjoy the holes in the Sandhills Prairie Zone.
Those who don’t play disc golf can take a stroll through the beautiful Sculpture Zone. You’ll also find horseback riding and therapeutic horseback driving. A large meadow is also available for children to play.
