DeKoevend Park

Centennial CO may be a relatively new city, but its residents have plenty to keep them busy. For example, the area boasts 100 parks and 100 miles of trails. This is a fantastic article to read.

The local food movement is thriving in Centennial, with two local markets and a handful of organic grocery stores. Another popular activity is biking.

1. Tennis Courts

Popular deKoevend Park is a favorite with residents of the city of Centennial and draws large crowds on weekends. With tennis courts, baseball fields, a playground, picnic areas and break off trails that extend for miles along the High Line Canal and Big Dry Creek this is a park that has something for everyone. This is one of the most desirable parks in Arapahoe County and is close to shopping at the Streets of Southglenn, Goodson Recreation Center, and easy access to C-470 and Denver International Airport. The courts fill up at night and on the weekend, so come early to reserve a court.

2. Basketball Courts

The basketball courts at deKoevend Park Centennial CO are popular with locals and visitors, including NBA legend Julius Erving (“Doctor J”). The two outdoor half-court gyms are a great place to practice your shot or play a pickup game. The Park also hosts community sports, classes, and events at the large coffee shelter, plaza, and amphitheater. Other amenities include walking paths, grassy picnic areas, a playground, five pickleball courts, and a community garden. The Park is free to the public and open 6 am-11 pm Monday through Saturday and all day Sunday.

3. Softball Fields

The park hosts several adult softball leagues, youth soccer, and Nerf football teams and offers open-swim sessions, swim lessons, and birthday party rentals. The 38-acre Centennial Park (located near the Community Pavilion along 93rd St & Oak Park Ave) was recently renovated and now features four new softball fields that radiate out from a central concessions stand and bathrooms, LED lighting throughout the park, additional sand volleyball courts, inline hockey rink, exercise stations, playground and more. The park is also home to the High Line Canal Trail, a 5.0-kilometer out-and-back trail that provides a scenic out-and-back journey convenient for hikers of all abilities. It also connects with the Big Dry Creek Trail in the nearby South Suburban Sports Complex. Parking lots are available on S University Blvd and S Vine Street.

4. Playground

The playground at deKoevend Park is an exciting play area that draws crowds of kids and their parents. It has a clubhouse feel and is mostly designed for ages 5 to 12. The equipment includes the usual slides, swings, and climbing structures, but also features unique things like monkey bars and rope obstacles that challenge adventurous children.

The western trailhead for the Centennial Link Trail is inside deKoevend Park off of University Blvd. From here, the trail heads east past Heritage Village Park and Lois Lenski Elementary School and continues alongside the wide-open grassland of Holly Park.

This huge park has something for everyone, including tennis courts, baseball fields, and a large picnic area with pavilions and grills. The park is also home to the Goodson Recreation Center and the South Suburban Ice Arena. It is surrounded by the High Line Canal and Big Dry Creek trails for even more options for outdoor adventure.
